Hello. This website is dedicated to demonstrate my competency as an educator and my effective teaching practices. Explore the website and feel free to email me any questions you may have.
A LITTLE ABOUT ME:
I come from a very large and close knit family. It just so happens that almost every adult is either a teacher, police officer, or a lawyer. I followed in my mother's foot steps and became an educator.
I had a rough time in school. It was unknown until high school that the reason I was struggling in class, was always asking the same questions, and was always a few steps behind my peers was because I had CAPD (Central Auditory Processing Disorder). By the time I entered high school I had learned to compensate for my disability.
I even went to college, while still in high school, which I was told by numerous elementary and middle school teachers was highly unlikely. But I did it. I excelled in my classes, especially in mathematics. As I worked on a degree in elementary education, I continued to take mathematics courses to challenge myself. As a freshman I was hired by a professor, now my mentor and friend, and worked for him as a teaching assistant teaching four college algebra classes a semester. Eventually, I was promoted to Teaching Assistant Coordinator which placed me in charge of training the Graduate math students in how to become effective teachers. I also created all of their weekly lesson plans, exams, and was in charge of developing tutoring and work schedules. In 2003, I graduated from Florida Atlantic University with honors and am now attending George Washington University where I am expected to complete my Masters Degree in Secondary Education w/ an emphasis in Mathematics Aug of 2004.
My biggest goal for myself is to continuously improve my teaching techniques so that I can inspire learners to take advantage of their education and to become well-educated individuals.
